Abstract
Several key issues on designing high-reliability optical fiber transmission system for MIL-STD-1773 data buses are investigated. Two novel optical modulation techniques which can efficiently solve the problems associated with the identification of correct states of optical transmitters are presented. The implementation of both schemes is considered. The selection of the optical devices and fibers, which is based on improving the reliability and capacity of an avionics optical fiber data bus, is discussed. Some future improvements on optical data bus systems are considered
