  • Abstract
    This paper reviews the early histocy of pollution research and its consideration in management as accomplished within the Marine Envirormental Quality Committee (MEQC) and predecessor units, International Council for the Exploration of the Sea. Recent issues and developments are discussed and used to illustrate the activities of the MEQC since 1975.
