Abstract
A new method for the design of pulse shapes for OFDM systems is presented. This method is based on a class of band-limited basis functions that are simultaneously energy-concentrated. The resulting pulses are short in time duration, and optimizable in the frequency domain. We illustrate the advantage of the method via the construction of a sequence of pulses that have both a lower intercarrier interference and a higher signal to interference ratio than several popular pulses used in ultra wideband communication
