Abstract
The mixed reality head-mounted display (MRHMD) is a video see-through head-mounted display supporting binocular vision for mixed reality applications, with customized hardware for real-time composition of video from natural scenes and rendered graphics from its supporting computer system. By incorporating this video compositor into the MRHMD, it is unnecessary for the high quality video stream to pass through the computer system. This frees up part of the processing power of the computer system for other computationally intensive tasks in a mixed reality system, and hence the overall performance of the system is improved. As a result, the user of the mixed reality system with our MRHMD experiences a shorter overall delay.
