Abstract :
In the mid 1990s, and in recognition of the fact that the integrity of the power system is dependent upon equipment entering service which has been commissioned to a high technical standard, the UK National Grid Company (NGC) embarked upon the major task of redefining its whole approach to commissioning. To this end, the company has both reformulated the management process for commissioning, and established a method of training and authorisation for all staff who have formal commissioning responsibilities. These initiatives will eventually be shared with NGC´s suppliers. This paper briefly describes some of the major aspects of the initiatives undertaken
