Abstract
Multicolor soliton generation by input beams containing extended dislocations, such as phase and amplitude jumps constitutes a new possibility to manipulate and control the solitons properties. We conducted experiments under conditions for second-harmonic generation in a bulk crystal, and found that the position of the edge dislocation relative to the peak of the input beam can be used to control the number and location of the generated solitons. With appropriate input light powers, only when the jump is located on one of the symmetry axes of the pump beam, the output splits into two diverging solitons. Otherwise, small deviations from the on-axis position deflect the generated solitons away from the input beam propagation direction.
