Abstract
A new power transfer technology called a Variable Frequency Transformer, VFT, has been recently developed. VFT is simply a doubly fed induction machine where machine torque controls the power flow from stator to rotor and vice verse. This paper investigates the performance of VFT when connecting two AC systems operating under different frequencies. The simulation study is carried out using Simulink/Matlab program. Both transient and steady-state analyses are given. Moreover, the system performance and stability during faults are also investigated.
