Abstract :
A conformal FDTD technique based on overlapping grids is proposed. Sample calculations show that this conformal FDTD is more accurate than the staircasing FDTD and that the bookkeeping seems to be less intensive than that of the locally distorted grid conformal FDTD. The authors have built 2-D and 3-D overlapping grid conformal FDTD codes and have done sample calculations. In particular, they present a comparison of the radar cross section calculations for a perfectly electrically conducting circular cylinder.<>
