Abstract
The characteristics of the normal mode helix were investigated as an antenna and as a scatterer. The effect of different parameters on the input impedance, such as the pitch angle alpha , the circumference C, and the number of turns N, was considered. It was found that the input impedance changes little with an increasing number of turns after a starting number of about ten turns. The radiation pattern of the normal mode helix is determined in different planes. Also, the scattered field from the normal mode helix illuminated by a left-hand circular polarization is calculated, and the radar cross section is determined.<>
