Abstract
This paper presents a new derivative-based power system frequency estimation approach for measuring the power system frequency. The proposed algorithm uses the digitized samples of the voltage or current signal at the relay location, together with the least error squares to estimate the signal frequency. Different simulated examples are reported in the paper. Effects of disturbances and harmonics on the estimated frequency are studied in this paper. It has been shown that the proposed algorithm is succeeded in estimating the signal parameters
