Abstract :
1xEV-DO is a 3rd generation CDMA/TDM hybrid system that provides high speed data service. Having bandwidth of 1.25 MHz, lxEV-DO could support data rate of up to 2.4576 Mbps in forward link. Multimedia data transmission through CDMA 2000 1x EV-DO network is prone to errors. Therefore, rate control system is necessary in order to manage data rate according to channel condition in multimedia data transmission. One of the methods used to achieve maximum data rate in forward link is scheduling mechanism. Scheduler is utilized to optimize and increase efficiency in system resource sharing process, where bandwidth is varying constantly in accordance to wireless channel fluctuation. In this research, to gain maximum data rate, a wireless system with proportional fair scheduler scenario is employed. PF scheduler algorithm is a scheduling mechanism that endeavors to raise system throughput performance by scheduling data transmission to users when their channels are optimized. On the other hand, open loop rate control is used to adaptively adjust the data rate to channel condition. Simulation results show that in vehicular type, scheduling mechanism using PF scheduler could improve system throughput. Throughput acquired by PF scheduler is 2.11 Mbps, while FIFO scheduler is merely 830 kbps.
