Abstract :
Linearized continuous phase modulation (LCPM) is introduced and compared to trellis-coded modulation (TCM). It is shown that a potential power gain exists in favor of LCPM over TCM at bandwidth efficiencies larger than 3 bps/Hz. Moreover, it is shown that LCPM can be generated using a single in-phase branch serially connected to a linear filter and thus does not require perfect quadrature.<>
