Abstract
Through a cooperative effort with the Naval Systems Warfare Center-Carderock Division, Lockheed Martin Information Systems has developed a system that automates the capture of technical information from legacy paper technical manuals. This advancement provides the DoD with an enabling technology that will reduce the cost of creating maintainable Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) by over 70 percent of methods available today. By employing natural language processing techniques and tools to resolve the information identification portion of the problem, the Automated Conversion System (ACS) minimizes hands-on labor, eliminates redundancies, automatically generates consistent data linkages, and provides a independent information capture tool
