  • Abstract
This paper presents a study on the Four-Wave Mixing (FWM) phenomenon affecting the performance of long-haul Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) optical transmission systems. A brief introduction on the physical nature of FWM is included. Three strategies to reduce its effects in multi-channel transmission systems are summarized. An application of one of these methods, based on an unequal channel spacings scheme, is included
