Abstract
The paper presents the “run of the river” Small Hydropower Plant as an individual supplier whose aim is to reduce the amount of energy used by a consumer from a power system. The analyzed object consists of two propeller turbines, PM synchronous generators and power electronic units. Application of a variable speed operation provides a wide range of power generation. Moreover, the power electronic converter is used to compensate reactive power in a consumer local system. Furthermore, installation of two parallel turbine units across the river makes water energy use more efficient. The results present a real power plant of the 180kVA total power.
