Abstract :
A simple, statistical model to evaluate the performance of M-ary QAM schemes in a line-of-sight multipath fading channel is proposed. The model is based on assumptions about the channel which are often encountered in practice. It leads to the postulation of an exponential-type probability density describing the effects of multipath fading on M-ary QAM schemes, whereby closed-form expressions for the average error probability can be derived. Illustrative results for 16-, 64-, and 256-QAM signals are presented.<>
