Abstract :
The paper reviews new power saving and efficiency regulations applied to server and telecom power supplies. It discusses aspects of system architectures with AC and DC uninterruptible bus on facility level, and then focuses on zero-voltage switching (ZVS), phase-shifted full-bridge DC/DC converter as a good candidate in such applications. The paper describes a new control strategy demonstrating power saving and high efficiency over the whole output power range. A new model for switching losses of super junction MOSFETs is provided that can be used for design optimization of the converter. Advantages of suggested control strategy are verified by test results of 660-W DC/DC converter for server power supply with the efficiency up to 94.5%, and illustrated by captured waveforms at different operation modes.
