Abstract
The authors compare the power spectral densities (PSD) of normal ECG´s with six different categories of abnormal ECGs, using the Welch´s averaged periodogram method. In the normal 12 lead ECG leads, peak power was in the range of 0.1074 to 3.1922 mv2/Hz for leads aVI and V2, and occurred in the frequency range of 1.5-4 Hz PSDs were negligible for frequencies >30 Hz. Significant differences (P<0.05) were observed in different frequency bands of normal and abnormal ECGs. These suggest that the total spectral energy and its distribution as a function of frequency, may contain important diagnostic information in the classification of normal and abnormal ECGs
