Abstract :
Usually a laser beam is a mixture of Hermite-Gauss or Laguerre-Gauss modes. These beams don´t change their shape when propagating through first order optics. Then kurtosis, on-axis intensity, and Strehl ratio will be invariant or dependent on main parameters such as widths and areas. They can be used only for additional characterization or as criteria of noise, high order aberrations, etc. Quality of astigmatic, twisted, partially coherent, and other types of complex beams can be completely described by second order, generalized or power content areas
