Abstract :
The scattering performance of advanced large-diameter metal space frame and next-generation solid laminate radomes is discussed. The electrical performance of the metal space frame radome is dominated by the scattering characteristics of the metal beams and hubs. Advanced designs optimize the forward scattering characteristics and randomness of the metal structure. Sandwich radomes are being utilized in numerous secondary surveillance radar and weather radar applications. In most of these applications, the panels are type A sandwiches that are optimized for minimum transmission loss over moderately narrow bandwidths. The seams and joints of the radome are tuned with frequency selective surface elements to reduce the scattering level and achieve high transmissivity (95%).<>
