Abstract :
The design of the Green Bank Telescope antenna is presented. Attention is given to the antenna performance, the operation conditions, the unblocked geometry, and the homologous design consideration. It is noted that the Green Bank Telescope will be the largest steerable radio telescope in the world. Its surface, measuring 100 m by 110 m, is so precisely constructed that the deviations from a perfect paraboloid will be less than the thickness of a piece of paper. Its unique unblocked design will maximise its sensitivity and reduce the interference problems encountered by the symmetric design.<>
