Abstract
A 4/spl times/4 Butler matrix beam forming network for multibeam antennas was designed and optimised in terms of packing density, amplitude and phase accuracy and other properties. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method with perfectly matched layer (PML) termination was used to optimise return loss, insertion loss and output phases of the network. The computed performance for the final design was compared with measurement.
