MIRAGE: an ACTS project in virtual production and stereoscopy

This paper introduces the ACTS MIRAGE project which is addressing the technology and techniques of television production in the studio using virtual reality and 3-D (stereoscopy). The authors consider that this is an important aspect of production in the future when extra channels and services will place significant demands on studio schedules and personnel. The paper gives the background behind the project which has, among its consortium members, a number of companies actively involved on a daily basis in the creation of virtual programming for television. It goes on to state the project aims through the work of the workpackages and gives some indication of progress in the first six months and the results achieved
