Abstract :
A two-dimensional finite-element analysis was previously used to find the electromagnetic scattering from periodic material structures by S. D. Gedney and R. Mittra (see IEEE Trans. Antennas Propag., vol.AP-39, no.11, p.1605-14, 1991). In the present work, it is proposed that this problem be solved (assuming a TE(E/sub y/, H/sub z/, H/sub y/) polarized incident plane wave) by using a one-dimensional finite-element formulation. This formulation is, in many cases, very computationally efficient.<>
