Abstract
It is well recognized that power line communications (PLCs) may cause harmful interference to existing radio services in the HF band. In this paper, we describe a modulation technique based on spectral encoding as a means to alleviate interference issues. The proposed modulation retains some advantages of MC modulations (notching of frequency bands, i.e. capability of conveying broadband signals over disjoint frequency bands) and of CDMA (low transmitted power, small signal dynamics, multiple access, resiliency to dispersion).
