Abstract :
This paper presents a new UPS topology, the active UPS (AUPS). The AUPS uses two high frequency cycloconverter circuits connected by a high frequency AC link. A full bridge inverter maintains the high frequency AC link power. One cycloconverter is connected in series with the mains, acting as a high impedance sinusoidal current source, and the other is connected in parallel with the load, maintaining a sinusoidal output of 230 VAC. This system permits low harmonics input current and low harmonics output voltage, even with nonlinear loads, load protection and reduced power processing during nonfault operation. In order to validate the theoretical and simulation results a 3000 W lab prototype is under development. Some results are presented in this paper
