  • Abstract
In order to make an easy control and access to 1394 devices, a IEEE1394/UPnP software bridge implementing UPnP over 1394 is introduced. The bridge settles some problems such as addressing of 1394 devices, protocol conversion and some mismatches of the two protocol that is bandwidth mismatch, the omit packet length mismatch and transmit rate mismatch. 1394 ARP protocol was introduced to obtain the hardware address and corresponding node ID(transaction address) which is changeable with the bus reset. Isochronous stream concept was proposed to cope with the mismatch transfer rate. 1394 network have a rigid QoS (Quality of Service) protocol when transfer AV data while UPnP network is a “best offer” network, so the bridge adds a QoS management module to ensure the quality of AV data.
