Abstract

This paper presents a novel user-centric networked media architecture, where content-aware capabilities at the network layer are intimately tied-up with network-aware functions at the service´s layer, towards maximum possible QoS/QoE provision. Focusing on the network segment, the paper initially presents the design of a novel virtual layer on top of the traditional network plane capable to enable content awareness, describes its operational components and functions, while elaborating on its communication with legacy infrastructures.
