Abstract :
The primary zinc-air electrochemical couple has many characteristics that make it an ideal candidate for widespread use in portable products. However, this has not materialized. The obstacle that has long obscured the benefits of zinc-air and prevented its application has been the inability to effectively deal with the water transpiration issue inherent in air-breathing systems. Here, “Diffusion Air Manager” technology is examined as an answer to this problem. It satisfies the many demanding and seemingly mutually exclusive requirements of portable air-breathing battery systems. An example of this battery system applied to a consumer electronic device is given to illustrate its feasibility and advantages
