Abstract
Both the depth and breadth needed in engineering education today can be addressed even before students enter engineering courses. This is particularly significant for English-medium engineering programs in countries where English is a foreign language. This paper describes how, with an ecological perspective, the environment of engineering education can be incorporated in an intensive English program which bridges the gap between secondary and tertiary education.
