Abstract
A brief review is presented of research and development (R&D) programs in microwaves, antennas, propagation, and optical communications in Brazil. These include several programs in universities and research centers and a few in industry. The present state-of-the-art is discussed and prospects for the future are considered. Areas where international cooperation might be stimulated are highlighted.<>
