Abstract
This paper proposes a method for assessing blur caused by defocus from one image. The essential idea is to estimate the point spread function (PSF) from the line spread function (LSF), whereas the LSF is constructed from edge information. The procedure includes edge detection and localization, pixel interpolation, LSF determination and PSF extraction. This approach is independent of image contents, and the algorithm has fast speed as it works in spatial domain without complex Fourier transform or iterative computation. The experimental results validate the proposed method. It can be used for blind image quality evaluation in vision-based applications.
