Abstract :
Image fusion techniques can be used to enhance the resolution of multispectral image, which is helpful for categorizing and recognizing and other decision making process. In this paper, a new image fusion algorithm based on multiwavelet transform combined with HPF (high-pass filter) is presented. First, the multi-spectral image and high-resolution panchromatic image are decomposed into high frequency subbands and low frequency subbands. Then, the high frequency subbands of the multi-spectral image is replaced with that of high-resolution panchromatic image, while the low frequency subbands after high pass filtering of the later is added to that of the multi-spectral image. Finally, the fused image is constructed by performing inverse multiwavelet transform. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective in enhancing spatial resolution as well as preserving spectral resolution. Furthermore, it removes the edge effect and reduces the computing burden compared with the conventional wavelet transform.
