Abstract
In the multilayer printed circuit boards domain, many types of interconnection lines are used: nonembedded, embedded and differential microstrip and single, dual and differential strip. In the literature, the simple microstrip line and single stripline are analyzed in general. For the PCB designer, the characteristic impedance and propagation delay time of the signal line are important, because these parameters are used for electromagnetic interference analysis. The distributed load of the digital signal line modifies the parameters of the line without load. The paper presents the general expressions for calculation of the characteristic impedance and the propagation time for a dual stripline with distributed load. The propagation time and characteristic impedance are determined, taking into consideration the width and the height of the microstrip line, the type of the dielectric board, the input capacitance of the digital circuit, the number of receiver circuits, the characteristic impedance and the propagation time of the dual stripline without load. The parameters of the dual stripline are compared with the parameters of the single stripline, with and without load
