Focusing on the use of tacit knowledge, the authors analyze the nature of intellectual activities in the R&D processes of the seven largest electronics companies in Japan using data obtained from a survey. The seven largest Japanese companies are Hitachi, Toshiba, NEC, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Matsushita and Sony
