Abstract
In this paper the Implementation of block truncation coding (BTC) in TMS320C6713 using quad tree segmentation scheme. Quad tree segmentation is employed to exploit the redundancy of various blocks of variable sizes. The scheme allows the dimensions of blocks to adapt to the local activity within the image and it permits adaptive bit allocation on a block-by block basis. Our algorithm computes the optimal selection of variable-sized blocks to provide the best-achievable prediction error under the fixed number of blocks for a quad tree-based BTC technique. According to the implementation results the proposed scheme provides a good approach to compress digital images with little computational complexity at a lower bit rate instructions.
