Abstract :
Generation conditions for runaway electron beams with maximum amplitudes and current densities at a nanosecond discharge in atmospheric pressure air have been determined. A supershort avalanche electron beam (SAEB) of the amplitude of about 30 A at the current with the pulse duration of approximately 100 ps FWHM and the beam current density of about 20 A/cm2 has been registered behind the gas diode foil. It is shown that there is a time shift in the position of the SAEB current amplitude maximum relative to the voltage pulse front during displacement of a small-dimensional collector along the foil surface.
