Abstract :
In this paper, a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) and pole placement method for static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) control is introduced. STATCOM is a device capable of solving the power quality problems at the power system. These problems happen in milliseconds and because of the time limitation; it requires the STATCOM that has continuous reactive power control with fast response. The former controller designing needs to positive definite matrix selection and the later is relative to desired pole places in complex coordinate. In this article, matrixes coefficients and dominant poles of closed loop transfer function are selected based on genetic algorithm method. These methods are tested in Matlab, and their results are obtained.
