Abstract :
In this paper the performance analysis of the two level single chain pointer (TLSCP) scheme has been done using an analytic model. In this model the users are classified according to their call-to-mobility ratio (CMR). The total cost is calculated by taking into considerations the cost of maintaining the location information (location updating) and locating the user (location tracking) between two consecutive calls. The advantage of the two level single chain pointer strategy is that it keeps the locate penalty low while significantly reducing the total system cost at the same time. The numbers of HLR updates have been restricted to number of calls received by a user thereby making this strategy efficient for users with low call to mobility ratio (CMR). Despite increase in localized traffic, this strategy is more efficient as the cost of HLR access and updates is much more than that of handling local traffic. Moreover, in this scheme, distributed HLR is used which distribute the network traffic evenly thereby reducing the traffic at a single point thus avoiding the single HLR to became a bottleneck.
