Abstract :
The UNM educational reltron is driven by a 2 stage bipolar 396 J Marx generator capable of generating a maximum of 120 kV. The output voltage pulse has a rise time of less than 0.25 ¿s and a variable pulse width of 1-4 ¿s. The pulse width is controlled by a crowbar switch that shunts current away from the load. An analytic model of the Marx generator´s charging and discharging is developed. The output current of the Marx generator model is compared with the beam current simulated using the MAGIC particle-in-cell code.
