Abstract :
Mastering and archiving of film material for video distribution has been discussed for a long time. Today we notice a technology evolution in the convergence of film, video and data on computer workstations. The paper proposes a new approach of high resolution film scanning with selectable transfer rate, converting the image information into a data stream and storing the digital master as a metafile in conjunction with ancillary information related to the different steps of postproduction. This includes embedding the multiple color correction EDLs and all audio channels. Various TV- and multimedia versions can be converted from the master file in high quality
