Abstract :
This paper describes the historic development of photovoltaic (PV) module technologies since about 1980. It covers crystalline technologies as well as thin-film modules, and describes features of modules designed for building integration and concentrating systems. Current production costs and module technologies are assessed in terms of their cost structure. The paper outlines possible developments in future cell and module designs which allows further cost reduction at manufacturing plants with 1000 MW annual production capacity
