Abstract
Conventional restaurant service is passive: meal-ordering is excessively relying on the interaction with waiters to channel the order into the kitchen. However, privacy on meal ordering and entertainment access, as well as order fulfillment, is desirable in a top-notch customer-centered service system. To realize this, the multi-touchable e-restaurant system is proposed. The system uses technologies innovatively in a modern restaurant such as multi-touch tabletop, Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), database and multimedia system to enhance quality of services and to enrich customers´ dining experience. The digitalized meal ordering menu and the multi-touchable entertainment applications were developed with Adobe Flash CS4 and ActionScript 3.0 that connect to a centralized database and media server, for information and media coverage in real-time. An evaluation on the system was conducted at Multimedia University and the evaluation results indicated that the proposed multi-touchable entertainment applications are deemed to be suitable in a restaurant and can improve customers´ dining experience.
