Abstract
The inhibition effect of two Schiff bases namely Mpd(Ovan) and Opd(Ovan) and their corresponding amines and aldehyde on the corrosion of mild steel in 1.0 M HCl is investigated by potentiodynamic polarization method. Mpd(Ovan) and Opd(Ovan) are of mixed type inhibitors with predominantly cathodic character. The highest (91%) and lowest (62%) inhibition efficiencies are displayed by Mpd(Ovan) and Ovan, respectively. Upon subjecting the samples under SEM examination, the reduction of the amount of corrosion products on the metal surface in the presence of Mpd(Ovan) is revealed.
