Abstract :
Fault diagnosis of electrical machines is gaining particular importance in view of machine down-time and revenue losses to the industry. Although experimental techniques such as vibration measurement of the stator frame, or spectrum analysis of the stator current waveforms, (also known as motor current signature analysis (MCSA)) exist to determine behavior of the machine under faulty conditions, little has been done to examine them through analytical means. A method using the modified winding function approach (MWFA) is proposed in this paper, to study the effect of static and dynamic eccentricity on a single phase induction motor. Simulation results for both cases of eccentricity have been included. Experimental results with the machine running on bad bearings (emulating eccentric motor operation) with no load have also been presented
