Abstract
We present, in details, the principal component analysis (PCA) applied to a neural based recognition system. The technique is valuated on the extraction of principal components in character images of Brazilians´ car license plates. This paper focus on the usage of the PCA in the recognition of character images. Comparisons with different neural classifiers are made.
