Abstract :
This study investigates the relationship between four firm-specific characteristics and the choice of the firms to pay voluntarily retirement benefits. The scope of this paper covers the Malaysian main board firms listed on Bursa Malaysia. The four firm-specific characteristics examined are: firms size, leverage, performance and the firms´ age. The results obtained from logit regression analysis for the period 2004 – 2008 show that the firms´ size, performance and age of the company are significantly related to the behaviors of the firms whether to pay voluntarily the retirement benefits.
