Abstract
The issue being discussed is the use of traditional songket motifs (a type of hand-woven fabric with complex designs and patterns), where they are only applied on fabric. Motifs seem to have a very close relationship with art creation. Optical art illusion has been utilized as an approach in researching and searching for appropriate songket motifs. Besides, few other principles have also been used and studied such as repetition and arrangement of songket motifs like modular structure, sequential combination and repetition. Through few relevant researches, it is noted that besides the field of textile, songket motifs have a big potential to be expanded into other fields, such as architecture and interior design. As a result, this research will focus on the study and formation of new designs and motifs by using Optical Illusion Art method, mainly in producing new artwork.
