Abstract
The valuation of scientific information has been and continues to be assessed in analyses of potential and actual uses. But it has only begun. There are many uses for geospatial information and many methods for valuing geospatial information, which means we, as decision makers and analysts, have considerable flexibility in demonstrating value for others. VOI quantification is useful for: - affirming the efficiency of research investment choices, - developing understanding of the nature of VOI in government, - connecting information products to operational applications. Geospatial map data has data standards and is operational - easier problem. Earth observation imagery has no standards (NOAA weather?) because most data collection platforms are experimental - harder problem. The preference is for demonstrating value with the geospatial data.
