Abstract
The following abstract describes the global situation of large grid-connected power plants and its role in selected countries. The new and old players in the renewable segments started in various ways and with different intentions: Germany, with an environmental pressure of the society, Spain and Italy keeping a focus on new business segments in their economy and Korea having the intention to become independent of fossil energy imports. The key is to reach the grid parity between renewable energies and fossil sources. It is a question of time, when we can reach this point ¿ actively or passively. The active part is the cost reduction of all types of renewable energies in a short time while the passive part is the increasing cost of fossil fuels in the next years.
